Winter Wonderloo Virtual Tree Lighting Ceremony Sat. Nov. 28th

The wonder of Christmas in a child’s eyes is what the holidays are all about. Despite all of the “covid chaos”, a downtown Waterloo tradition will continue and provide a twinkle in the eyes of area kids and “kids at heart”.

Coming soon, the giant Christmas tree in the photo will come to life once again, marking the beginning of the holiday season in downtown Waterloo. Even though the governor’s proclamation will not allow for crowds to gather in person, Main Street Waterloo has been busy working with Santa and his elves finalizing plans for a virtual evening of fun. Kicking off the festivities, on Saturday, November 28th at 6:25pm, Main Street Waterloo will go live on social media with a special video to help light up the Christmas Tree.

In an effort to keep Santa healthy for Christmas eve and his trip around the globe, Santa will be available on-line to talk with local children. Make sure your child has their Christmas list ready, then they can join Santa in a Zoom meeting from their comfy cozy homes. Sign-up here for a 5 minute time slot, and you will receive a zoom link.

The popular Winter Wonderloo’s Virtual 5K is also moving virtual. Just get signed up, then go for a run or walk on your time, and you could win a prize. Make sure to dress up in a wacky holiday costume or Santa outfit and submit your photos as well.

Here’s more fun, this year, Main Street Waterloo is partnering with the Cedar Falls CAPS program to bring you a Downtown Holiday Scavenger Hunt. The hunt will kick off on November 23rd and run through November 28. Watch their Facebook page and their website for the clues and how to participate.

Also, remember, this holiday season especially, it’s important to support local businesses, so when you’re shopping downtown Waterloo make sure to check out the decorated store windows, and check out Shop Downtown Saturdays.
