Social Media Threat to Waterloo Schools Prompts District Closure Today
WATERLOO – There’s no school in Waterloo today(Weds), due to a social media threat to several of the district’s buildings early last(Tues) night.
Waterloo police responded around 6:40 to a report of a screen shot of a SnapChat post circulating on Facebook that read, “I’m blowing up East, West, Carver and Central tomorrow.”
A statement early this(wed) morning from Waterloo Community School District spokesperson Tara Thomas says, “The police and school staff worked throughout the night to investigate this social media threat. While we made great progress in resolving the issue, there is still additional investigation that needs to be completed prior to students returning to school. Out of an abundance of caution and to allow the police to complete their investigation, we are canceling school for today(Weds). Please know the safety of our students is our first priority. Thank you for your patience.”
