Shooting near Hazel Dr and Elmhurst Dr NE sends 21-year-old man to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said
Cedar Rapids, IOWA – According to the police officials, the shooting occurred right before 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
It happened near Hazel Dr and Elmhurst Dr NE.
Cedar Rapids Police Department officers responded to a shooting call.
When the officers arrived on scene, they reportedly located a 21 year old male suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his arm.
He was treated immediately and transported to a local hospital.
Due to their proximity to the incident scene, Mount Mercy College, Garfield Elementary and Regis Middle School locked-down their campuses and sheltered in place until it was deemed safe to re-open.
Preliminary indications point to the male victim being caught in gunfire exchanged between two or more shooters near the intersection.
Several homes received bullet damage in the incident. Investigators gathered evidence and conducted extensive searches in the area for potential suspects.
