Motorcyclist dies after crash with SUV in the southbound area of I-380 and Highway 30
Cedar Rapids, IA – According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the fatal crash occurred right before 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
It happened in the southbound area of I-380 and Highway 30.
Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Departments respond to a report of a fatal two-vehicle crash.
The responding officers discovered that black Buick SUV and motorcycle collided at the location.
Police said the SUV driver attempted to exit I-380 south with the intent of making the turn to head toward Highway 30 east.
The SUV veered away from the exit ramp, through a grassy divide and back onto I-380 where it collided with the motorcycle, also southbound on I-380.
The motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s age or identity have not yet been released.
The driver of the SUV, later identified as 39-year-old Carlos Garcia, was uninjured in the collision.
Garcia is now charged with Vehicular Homicide and Operating While Intoxicated.
This incident remains under investigation.
