Man goes to hospital for back pain, finds out he’s pregnant!
Per reports, the trans man, Coleman, has reportedly opened up about his pregnancy, which occurred almost 10 years after he began transitioning. He said that he was experiencing back pain one day when he and his then-boyfriend, Elijah, joked that he might be pregnant. He had been transitioning for almost a decade, had been receiving testosterone injections for five years, and was about to have a double mastectomy, or “top surgery,” to remove his bre-sts.
After taking a pregnancy test, which confirmed his suspicions, doctors told him he was 21 weeks pregnant. “I was shocked,” he said. “It took a while to process it. But I was also busy figuring out how we could make things work in such a short space of time.” Coleman also said that doctors required him to halt the testosterone shots six weeks before his mastectomy. On the couple’s YouTube channel, TheShadyColemans, he also mentioned that his surgery was March 28 and he didn’t take hormones again until June.
Coleman and his partner prepared their home for a child. In July 2013, they got married, reports the Mirror. They also needed to come out to Elijah’s family, who did not know his partner was transgendered. “It was such a personal thing that I felt if Coleman wanted them to know he should tell them himself,” Eljiah explained. “But when we found out Coleman was pregnant we knew we had to tell them. How could we explain the baby when she popped up after a couple of months?”
Coleman was induced at nine months, since he had high blood pressure. Although he did not face discrimination while in labor, he admitted feeling like an experiment, as medical students came in and out of his room. Although there was tension in Elijah’s family, Coleman said that they now have a happy family. The couple plans to tells their now-22-month-old daughter, Azelia, about her unique family when she turns five. “As long as Azelia is loved and cared for, I doubt she’ll care,” Coleman said.
