Department of Natural Resources environmental specialists are working to identify the source of discolored water in Palestine Creek
Eddyville, IA – According to the statement, the Department of Natural Resources Washington field office reportedly received two complaints Monday about brownish-orange water flowing into the creek from underground tile lines.
Department of Natural Resources staff inspected the area Monday and took water samples Tuesday to help determine the source of the pollutant. Field tests showed some elevated ammonia levels.
There is no sign of a fish kill, officials said.
According to the statement, water samples will also be analyzed in a laboratory for total suspended solids, biological oxygen demand, ammonia and E. coli bacteria.
NOTE: the lab results should be back in about five working days.
This is a developing story and it will be updated as new information become available.
