Crews searching for drowning victim in Cedar River

Linn County, IA – According to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, this incident occurred right before 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. 

Lin County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received an emergent call from Palisades State Park for a person who went into the water and began to struggle.

Linn County Sheriff’s deputies, Linn County Rescue crews, Mount Vernon – Lisbon Police Department officers, lowa State Patrol troopers, the lowa Department of Natural Resources, Lisbon – Mount Vernon Fire Department crews, Cedar Rapids Fire Department River Rescue crews, Mount Vernon – Lisbon Ambulance and Lifeguard Air Ambulance responded to the scene.

The victim has been later identified as 11-year-old Zyah Thomas. 

Rescuers were unable to locate the body of Zyah Thomas today while searching the Cedar River at Palisades Kepler State Park near Mount Vernon.

Search efforts will resume today.
