Cedar Rapids Chief of Police Wayne Jerman has been named “Law Enforcement Executive of the Year” for 2021 by the IPCA
Cedar Rapids, IA – According to the statement, Chief of Police Jerman reportedly received the recognition from the IPCA at their annual conference Thursday night in Coralville.
The award recognized many of his contributions to the City and the State of Iowa since coming to Cedar Rapids in 2012.
The Iowa Police Chiefs Association organization works to promote professional standards in the L.E. community and is used as a resource by individual cities, the Iowa League of Cities, the Iowa Legislature, the Governor’s Office, the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Iowa Police Chiefs Association expertise is also sought out by communities across Iowa to assist in the promotion and selection of current and future police administrators and executives.
“Chief Jerman has strengthened relationships with the community and ensured that officers have adequate mental health training. He created and implemented the Police Community Action Team, a specialized team of officers tasked with gaining the trust and cooperation of residents in at-risk neighborhoods.
He also created the Police Chief’s Advisory Committee, a body of community members who review and offer feedback on department practices, policies, initiatives, training, outreach programs, and police-related incidents. He led the creation of a partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness to provide training and assistance to officers through the Crisis Intervention Team.” CRPD officials said in a press release.
