40-year-old man arrested, charged with domestic assault, criminal mischief

Waterloo, IA – According to the Waterloo Police Department, this incident occurred right before 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.

It happened at 748 Kern Street.

Waterloo Police Department officers responded to a welfare check call.

The responding officers discovered that the 40-year-0ld suspect was holding a female and several children against their will inside.

The Waterloo Police Department Tactical Unit, Hostage Negotiators, and Crisis Intervention Unit were activated.

After several hours of negotiations, the female and children were able to exit the house.

The 40-year-old man surrendered outside and was arrested.

He is now charged with: Domestic Assault 1st, Criminal Mischief 4th, and Probation Violation.

This incident remains under investigation.
