17-year-old suspect arrested, charged for multiple fires in Story County

Story County, IA – According to the Story County Sheriff’s Office, the 17-year-old suspect was arrested and taken into custody on Wednesday.

The juvenile suspect, who was not named by police, is now charged with multiple charges, including: first-degree arson; two counts of second-degree arson and first-degree criminal mischief. 

The SCSO officials said the first fire occurred at Casey’s General Store in Maxwell on Feb. 3. The store caught fire again on Feb. 6.

Right before 4 a.m. on March 9, authorities discovered a bus had caught fire at Collins-Maxwell High School.

According to the Story County Sheriff’s Office, the Casey’s building and school bus are both total losses.
